Mountain State Science Series Looks at Wheeling Challenger Center

Tue May 17 2011

The Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University will be featured on the Mountain State Science series on West Virginia Public Broadcasting.

The installment, one of nine airing this year both on public TV and radio, will debut Friday at 8 p.m. and be repeated Sunday at 6 p.m. (in Wheeling Channel 10 on Comcast or Channel 8 on Centre TV).

The series is supported by the National Science Foundation EpSCOR program, whose goal is to strengthen research and education in science and engineering throughout the United States.

Wheeling's Challenger is one of 48 centers internationally worldwide established by the Challenger Center for Space Science in memory of the space shuttle Challenger. More than 30,000 students fly missions each year either at the Wheeling facility or through distance learning. The center provides students, teachers, and adult learners with simulations that emphasize teamwork, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills. The Challenger Learning Center has been honored nine years for having served the most children of all the centers.

Also this month, the Challenger Learning Center debuted a redesigned website featuring easier access and up to date information about the programs and staff at the Wheeling facility.
