New Server Improves NASATalk Performance

Tue Jan 17 2012

The NASATalk website is now located on its own dedicated server, giving the NASATalk team complete control over its content management system (CMS) server, the database, and all its connections.

The host server transition went smoothly and NASATalk authors and participants should notice better performance, according to Dr. Laurie Ruberg, associate director of the Center for Educational Technologies and leader of the NASATalk project. For example, database requests are now virtually limitless, whereas before the HostGator site was periodically shutting down because of increased simultaneous access requests. The new server also improved the ease and speed of the site backup process. Other advantages are faster response time from the team to solve any critical issues the server may be having, increased security, and better performance monitoring.

NASATalk is an online collaborative that highlights STEM opportunities available through NASA's Aerospace Education Services Project (AESP), Digital Learning Network (DLN), NASA Explorer Schools, and Electronic Professional Development Network (ePDN) projects.
