Reese to Contribute to Digital Knowledge Maps Volume

Tue Jun 12 2012

Dr. Debbie Denise Reese, senior educational researcher at the Center for Educational Technologies, has had a chapter accepted for publication in the upcoming edited volume, Digital Knowledge Maps in Education: Technology Enhanced Support for Teachers and Learners.

Reese, who leads the CyGaMEs project that investigates learning and assessment in educational videogame, will write a chapter titled, "Digital Knowledge Maps: The Foundation for Learning Analytics Through Instructional Games." According to her abstract, her chapter "is designed to build capacity. It will help stakeholders knowledgeably implement the nation's technology plan: a future of enhanced teaching and learning in which cyberlearning environments provide assessment and evaluation through learning analytics."

The book is tentatively scheduled for publication in spring 2013.

Reese's work on videogame learning and assessment has been recognized by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a top example of successful STEM education.

The Selene videogame, for which she led the development, has twice in the last four years received the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) Design and Development Best Practice Award. The award recognizes "those individuals or groups that have designed exemplary instructional materials or systems," according to AECT.
