Metaphor Article Gets Journal Publication

Wed Jun 14 2006

Two members of the Center for Educational Technologies® have had an article published in the International Journal of Technology, Knowledge, and Society.

Dr. Debbie Denise Reese, an educational researcher, and Dr. Jim Coffield, an instructional designer at the center, are the authors of "Just-in-Time Conceptual Scaffolding: Engineering Sound Instructional Metaphors." Reese and Coffield show how metaphors can help learners understand a challenging chemistry concept.

The article describes a process for designing metaphor-enhanced, computer-mediated learning objects; theoretical underpinnings; affordances of a higher-order concept; and applications within diverse learning environments (e.g., gaming).

The journal is published, but the article can be downloaded online.
