Diocesan Teachers Tackle Robotics

Wed Apr 8 2009

Teachers from the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, WV, learned how they can use robotics to teach math applications and also stimulate interest in other science content. The seven teachers, whose students ranged from elementary through high school, took part in a 90-minute hands-on workshop on robotics as part of the diocese's "Integrating Technology into the Curriculum" training held April 3 at the Center for Educational Technologies®.

Dr. Meri Cummings, science resource teacher and lab manager at the Center for Educational Technologies and director of the annual West Virginia FIRST LEGO League State Tournament, led the workshop, and the West Virginia Space Grant Consortium funded it. Among the demonstrations was one showing how sensors on the robots could be used to obtain chemistry data.
