Reese Participates in Training Institute

Mon Aug 17 2009

Dr. Debbie Denise Reese, principal investigator of the CyGaMEs project at the Center for Educational Technologies®, was invited this summer to attend two weeks of special training from the U.S. Department of Education.

Reese was selected to participate in the Training Institute on Cluster-Randomized Trials. The purpose of the institute is to increase the national capacity of researchers to develop and conduct rigorous evaluations of the impact of education interventions. The National Center for Education Research in the Institute of Education Sciences within the Department of Education organized the institute.

Reese said the Center for Educational Technologies is already nationally recognized for its ability to conduct programmatic evaluation to examine the influence of learning technologies and instructional approaches on teaching and learning. Attendance at the institute's intensive training on planning, implementing, and analyzing data for cluster randomized trials enhanced the center's ability to develop and conduct rigorous evaluations of the impact of education interventions, from exploratory work through fully scaled-up evaluations, Reese said.

Admission to the institute was competitive, and the institute estimates that it invests $10,000 in each attendee.
