Mining Safety Is Focus of MISTTI

The Mining and Industrial Safety Technology and Training Innovation (MISTTI) project, funded through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, has worked to improve the health and safety of miners and other workers by enhancing and facilitating the introduction of new and existing technologies, training, and technology transfer approaches from government and private research facilities into the mining industry. In 2011 the Center for Educational Technologies created training on dust management, which incorporated tougher standards proposed by the Mine Safety and Health Administration for dust inhalation in miners. In addition, the center began creating a series of "toolbox topics" that address safety issues that lead to accidents and fatalities in mining.
